Daniel Radcliffe: "I started drinking too much because I wanted to be like Richard Harris"

Posted in : Gossips

(added 1 days ago)

Sitting in a Los Angles hotel room, chatting away about his latest film, you’d assume that all was well in Daniel Radcliffe’s world. But deep down the Harry Potter star is missing the woman who has stolen his heart – Rosie Coker.

Daniel, 22, has been in America for weeks promoting the spine-chilling horror movie, The Woman in Black. And, looking wistful, he admits he’s desperate to get back to England and to his girlfriend of more than a year.

“I haven’t seen her for weeks and I won’t even be back for Valentine’s Day,” he says with a sigh. “I’ll be home a few days later, though, so I’ll have to make up for lost time. I can’t wait to see Rosie. I’ve got three weeks off so we can be together – although I do plan to watch quite a bit of sport on TV.”

He smiles to show he’s only joking then adds: “When I’m with Rosie every day seems to get better and better and I’ve got someone in my life who makes me happier than I ever thought I could be. “Rosie’s lovely. She’s a wonderful, wonderful girl – but far too good for me! I find myself constantly going, ‘S***, you don’t know what you’re in for yet!’”

Daniel met Rosie, 22, on the set of the last Harry Potter film where she was a production assistant. Surprisingly, this heartthrob with millions of female fans around the world admits it took him a while to woo Rosie because “I’m c*** at the whole dating thing”. Daniel adds: “I’m not an easy person to love. There are lots of times when I’m a very good boyfriend but there are times when I’m useless. I’m a mess around the house, I talk non-stop, I get obsessed with things. “But she listens to it all, and she loves my oddness and awkwardness. She finds it cute. I guess that’s love.”Watching Daniel’s face light up when he talks about Rosie, you can tell how hard he finds it to be parted from her.

He says: “It’s a case of us making time for each other whenever we can. She did a huge amount of travelling last year to visit me as often as she could while I was on stage in New York.”Still, it can’t be easy for her dealing with all the devoted Harry Potter fans who mob Daniel wherever he goes.

“It’s mad and I have to keep myself grounded,” he says. “But Rosie’s getting used to it, she’s very understanding and incredibly adaptable. She knows how wild it is and how much it all has to be laughed at and not taken seriously.”

But Daniel admitted recently: “I was always very nervous about the groupie thing. I like to like somebody before I sleep with them. You know you’re going to have to talk to them afterwards, even if it is a one-night stand.

“I have... I mean, that has happened, but generally speaking I’ve known the person. Apart from a few times when I was drinking. Besides, I like having a girlfriend. I have a crazy life... somebody will tell me we’re going to an airport and I know vaguely what we’re doing but I have no idea when so I take it a day at a time.”

Daniel also took it a day at a time when he quit drinking 18 months ago after he had booze blackouts. He reveals: “Harry Potter put me around people like the actor Richard Harris and I heard all their amazing stories about their drunken nights. That was what I was desperately trying to pursue.

“But I was a really annoying, loud, inappropriate, messy drunk. I’m good fun for the first four drinks and after that it’s a rapid, rapid decline into where I have to be helped home. Blackout was kind of my thing.”

He has also moved on from Harry Potter into serious adult movies. His latest The Woman In Black was the biggest-grossing movie in America on its opening weekend. In it Daniel plays Arthur Kipps, a young widower and lawyer in 19th century London who is sent to a remote Yorkshire village to sort through a dead woman’s papers in her creepy mansion. There he is haunted by the Woman in Black who is seeking murderous revenge for the loss of her child.

Daniel explains: “I read the script a few hours after I’d done my last shot on Harry Potter. The fact that it was a horror film was unexpected and out of the blue. I’d never pictured myself doing one, so it made it all the more enticing. It’s about loss and what happens to us if we don’t move on from loss and I absolutely knew it was what I wanted to do next.

“I’m very, very proud of Potter but I have to now prove to people that I’m serious about acting and the way to do that is select interesting material. This was a great script and a great story because it’s so unsettling and frightening.

“There’s a certain kind of sadistic joy to be had in knowing you’re in a horror movie that’s really going to freak people out. Here’s this guy who’s lost his wife, goes to this house and starts seeing the ghost of a dead woman. I think he stays out of a hidden desire to get some sort of assurance that his wife is in a better place.”

Daniel has already proved himself to be a versatile actor both on screen and on stage. While still filming Harry Potter he appeared in the West End and on Broadway in Equus. And his recent Broadway run in How  To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying earned him critical acclaim, a Grammy nomination and an Audience Choice Award for Favourite Actor in a Musical.

Entertainment Weekly voted him Entertainer of the Year in 2011. And in his next film, Kill Your Darlings, he will play the gay beat poet Allen Ginsberg.

“If I can, I want to mix stage and film for the rest of my career,” he says. “Being on stage was a fantastic experience and doing a comedy and having to be confident in front of an audience was something I’d never had to do before, it was amazing.”

He has, of course, already earned a fortune but Daniel does not flaunt his wealth. His biggest extravagance is art – pieces by Damien Hirst and Craigie Aitchison hang in his London flat. He doesn’t own a car and rarely goes on holidays, but he has several properties which he says are investments and handled by his mother.

He devotes time and money to Demelza House, a hospice for terminally ill children, and to the Trevor Project, a non-profit organisation for suicide prevention.

Daniel says: “You have to keep a sense of reality about what’s important and never let fame be part of your identity. Fame won’t be around at this level for ever, so the moment it goes you’ll suddenly realise that you don’t know who you are.

“I’m proud that I think I know who I am and what I come down to as a human being because I don’t see myself as a famous person.”

Daniel Radcliffe 'embarrassed' by public proposal

Posted in : Gossips

(added 2 days ago)

Daniel Radcliffe has reportedly been left red-faced by a fan's public proposal. The 'Harry Potter' actor - who is dating production assistant Rosie Coker - was filming an interview at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles when the love-struck fan is said to have run over and got down on one knee.

Daniel Radcliffe 'embarrassed' by public proposal

A source told the Daily Star: "Daniel was so embarrassed. The girl was about a foot taller than him and she pulled out a ring and got down on one knee. "He was bright red and didn't know what to do so he just made a big joke out of it. "He said: 'You're wonderful but I think we should see other people. I'm sure if my girlfriend were here she would give her blessing. I'm really flattered though. That took some guts to do that."But Daniel did not have such kind words for the Academy, which has once again ignored the boy wizard franchise in the Oscars.

The 'Woman in Black' star told the Radio Times: "There's a certain amount of snobbery. It's kind of disheartening. I never thought I'd care. But it would've been nice to have some recognition, just for the hours put in. "I don't think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids' films, unless they're directed by Martin Scorsese. I was watching 'Hugo' the other day and going, 'Why is this nominated and we're not?' I was slightly miffed."

Daniel Radcliffe ends support for Liberal Democrats

Posted in : Gossips

(added 3 days ago)

Daniel Radcliffe has announced that he is no longer a supporter of the Liberal Democrats after emerging as one of the party's most high-profile celebrity backers ahead of the last British general election, and will probably vote instead for Labour under its "genuinely leftwing" leader, Ed Miliband.

Daniel Radcliffe ends support for Liberal Democrats

In what is turning into a hemorrhaging of support for the Lib Dems among a list of celebrity backers it unveiled in the run-up to last year's vote, the star of the Harry Potter franchise described party leader Nick Clegg as a "whipping boy" for the Conservatives. He also hit out at the "homophobia" of some of the US Republican presidential candidates.

Colin Firth, another actor and A-list Hollywood star declared in December that he was ending his support for the Lib Dems. The party has also lost the support of Bella Freud, the fashion designer, and Kate Mosse, the author.

Radcliffe made the comments in an interview that will be published on Monday in the latest issue of Attitude magazine, the same forum he used in 2009 to announce that he would "almost certainly" be using his first ever vote in a general election to vote Lib Dem.

Asked if he is happy with the Lib Dems's place in the coalition, he said: "No, of course not. Nick Clegg asked to meet me after that Attitude interview and we talked about issues such as gay rights and faith schools.

"I was initially supportive. For me it was good that the Lib Dems would be fighting our corner. But he has become a whipping boy and it seems to me that he has been totally used by the Tories - anything they don't want badly reflected on them they reflect on to him."

The actor, who is estimated to have a £30m fortune, cited "so many concessions" by the Lib Dems' on education and taxes. He added: "I think, if you make a lot more money than most people - like I do - you should pay more tax and subsidise people who work just as hard as you, but don't earn as much."

Radcliffe, whose current film, The Woman in Black, was estimated to have made $21m at the US box office during its weekend opening, said he "will probably be going to Labour".

He said: "From what I've seen of Ed Miliband, I really like him and he speaks for what I believe in. I think he's genuine, genuinely leftwing, and will act as such if he gets in."

The actor — who is straight — also used the interview to call for gay marriage, relationship education in schools that would cover both gay and straight relationships, and attacked some of the US Republican presidential candidates.

Radcliffe said that he wished more educational establishments, especially in the US, were not in thrall to religion, stating: "I'm not religious, I'm an atheist, and a militant atheist when religion starts impacting on legislation. We need sex education in schools.

He went on to say that he has been "disgusted, amazed, stunned" by candidates seeking the Republican presidential nomination, such as Rick Santorum or Michele Bachmann, who have been openly hostile to gay rights.

"But they disgusted me less than candidates like Rick Perry, who made that ridiculous advert wearing 'the Brokeback jacket', and I think pretend to be homophobic just to win votes." .

Asked if he wished that Barack Obama would publicly back gay marriage, he replied: "Yes, I do, but can he really? Of course he's in favour of it, but he has to be careful about saying so. I'd rather have someone like him in the White House than the alternative."

Daniel Radcliffe Was Drunk on the 'Harry Potter' Set

Posted in : Gossips

(added 3 days ago)

Daniel Radcliffe steers clear of the butterbeer these days, but that wasn't the case near the end of filming the Harry Potter series. The celebrated young actor recently admitted in an interview with Heat magazine (via UsWeekly) that his addictive personality led to some less-than-professional moments on the set.

Daniel Radcliffe Was Drunk on the 'Harry Potter' Set

Radcliffe, who says he was drinking every night, wasn't knocking 'em back in his trailer. "I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work," He explained. "I can point to many scenes where I'm just gone. Dead behind the eyes."Radcliffe isn't the only actor who's admitted to getting sauced on the set. Method actors can be a lot of fun.

Daniel Radcliffe's celebrity obligation

Posted in : Gossips

(added 3 days ago)

Daniel Radcliffe feels obliged to speak to other celebrities. The 22-year-old actor admits he finds it "weird" that famous people feel the urge to connect with one another, even when they have never met.

Daniel Radcliffe's celebrity obligation

He said: "I still go, 'It's you!', I can't help it. But there's this weird thing sometimes between celebrities who don't know each other. You have a shared experience of something so there's kind of an obligation to say hello. "I was in a coffee shop once and Jack Black came in and sat down and we did a, 'Hey mate'. It was so weird. I've never even met the guy."

Despite his fame, Daniel insists he finds it easy to make friends as he can always tell if someone is only interested in his success. He told the new issue of Esquire magazine: "It's f***ing easy to tell if people are genuine or not. Sometimes they're a bit too interested. If you take a step back and they pursue, then they're probably just a little bit too keen."

Daniel Radcliffe talks male nudity, female nudity and Rupert Grint’s muscles

Posted in : Gossips

(added 8 days ago)

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is not an actor who is afraid to show a bit of male nudity, as his track record shows with the West End play Equus. Now it appears that Daniel is going to have to get his kit off again, as he prepares for his latest role in the movie Kill Your Darlings. Daniel admitted that he was fine with doing it, as he is comfortable with how his body looks, although he did admit that he does not compare to the muscular physique of his Harry Potter co star Rupert Grint.

Radcliffe explained, "I'm comfortable with my body. It's funny, actually, I've just been having a discussion with the guy who's directing my new project. It might have a bit of nudity and he said: 'Just to let you know, if you're getting naked, no landscaping of any kind. This is the 1940s and you're playing a Jew.'”

He added, "I was like, 'Pretty much there anyway, mate! Not a huge amount of maintenance going on.' I mean, there's a little bit, obviously, for courtesy. This is way too much information, but I don't like girls with nothing down there either. It freaks me out. You have to have something, otherwise it's f****** creepy."

Daniel concluded, "I'm not going to try to compete with Rupert on the arms front. His dad is a big guy, so if anyone was going to get the proper muscleman build, it was Rupert. You'd have to search pretty hard to find a more handsome ginger. He's also a dude. I wish I could be that calm. I'm lucky to have found an industry where this level of hyperactivity is encouraged. Otherwise I'd just be a f****** nuisance!" Daniel Radcliffe can next be seen on the big screen in The Woman in Black, which is released on February 3.

Daniel Radcliffe can't trim his pubic hair

Daniel Radcliffe was told to leave his pubic hair untrimmed for a new movie. The former 'Harry Potter' star has landed a role in an upcoming film playing a Jewish man in the 1940s and has revealed the director told him any "landscaping" of the intimate area was off limits.

Daniel Radcliffe returns to screen in ‘The Woman in Black,’ his post-Harry Potter role

Posted in : Gossips

(added 10 days ago)

The face of the highest-grossing movie franchise of all time obviously never got the memo that big stars aren’t supposed to spend two days submerging themselves in a tank filled with frigid, viscous brown goo.

Daniel Radcliffe returns to screen in ‘The Woman in Black,’ his post-Harry Potter role

That, however, is just what Daniel Radcliffe did while shooting his new gothic horror movie, “The Woman in Black.” It opens Friday. He was happy to do it, thanks.

The 22-year-old actor was eager to prove he has plenty of magic left for his first major film role since “Harry Potter” ended. “It was very cold, but because of my kind of slight Napoleon complex of being a little shorter, I kind of feel that I have to tough it out and prove to everybody that I can do it,” Radcliffe tells The News. “I think it was about a day and a half before I asked for a blanket.

“We had to stop a couple of times because I couldn't put up with the cold,” he says. “It was a long, tough shoot, but it was great. It was good fun.” Based on the 1983 novel by Susan Hill, “The Woman in Black” is the tale of widowed lawyer Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is assigned to retrieve documents from a recently deceased client’s manor miles removed from the closest village in the English countryside.

Cut off from the mainland by the tides of the surrounding marshland — hence the goo — Kipps soon finds he’s not alone inside Eel Marsh House; there’s a malevolent ghost who preys on the children of anyone unfortunate enough to cross her path. Directed by James Watkins and also starring Ciaran Hands and recent Oscar-nominee Janet McTeer, it’s the type of classic British horror film best watched through one’s fingers.

“We ended up making a very dark horror movie,” he says, flashing his trademark mischievous grin. “But what would give us satisfaction was when we’d film something and we’d go, oh that’s really going to scare people.”

Ghosts don’t scare Radcliffe in real life. Not much else does, either. He did, after all, bare a lot more than his soul in the 2008 production of “Equus” on Broadway. His one true phobia is that audiences won’t want to see him do anything but run around with a wand. The Boy Who Lived is now a young man who wants to move on.

“I am nervous, because I’ve never had a film come out where there isn’t the inevitability of huge, millions of people going to see it,” he says. “So yeah, I am a bit nervous. I want people to see it and I want them to enjoy it, and hopefully they will.”

For a guy who has accomplished so much at such a young age — he wrapped up a franchise that earned $7.7 billion at the box office worldwide, led a highly successful Broadway revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and took a turn as host of “Saturday Night Live,” all within the last few months — Radcliffe seems to harbor an excessive amount of self-doubt.

Daniel Radcliffe morphs from Harry to horror

Posted in : Gossips

(added 15 days ago)

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has said it feels "very natural" to be moving on in his acting career, away from the character who has made him a global name. The 22-year-old actor stars as widowed father and lawyer Arthur Kipps in the new Hammer horror adaptation of the gothic ghost story The Woman in Black, directed by James Watkins.

Daniel Radcliffe morphs from Harry to horror

It is Radcliffe's first film role since the final Harry Potter movie was released last year, and fans of the boy wizard lined the red carpets at London's Royal Festival Hall, brandishing Harry Potter memorabilia to be signed. Radcliffe said of his new role: "It felt very natural to be stepping into another character and starting this next phase of my career."The film is a dark tale full of scary moments but Radcliffe insisted there had not been such a gloomy atmosphere on set.

"We had a very nice, relaxed time on all of our locations. It was a very good time and nothing scary happened," he said. The film, which is already a hit West End play, was adapted from Susan Hill's novel by Kick-Ass script writer Jane Goldman. Radcliffe insisted the pressure of The Woman In Black's long-running success had not loomed over him while making the film.

"They're totally separate entities so I don't think we are going to be compared to other versions of it. But it will be great for this classic story to get such a wide audience," he said. Goldman, who attended the premiere with husband Jonathan Ross, revealed she was very impressed by Radcliffe's performance. "I think he's incredible and so many people have come up to me at screenings and said they have been blown away by Daniel," she said. "And rightly so, he's amazing."

Daniel Radcliffe has revealed that he and former Harry Potter co-star Rupert Grint aren't really friends anymore! Daniel, who played Harry Potter in the hit films, admitted that he has stayed close to his other co-star Emma Watson (Hermione) - but he doesn't have much to do with Rupert (Ron Weasley) these days.

Daniel Radcliffe And Rupert Grint Aren't Friends

Is Taylor Swift dating Zac Efron?

"There's this idea that Emma, Rupert and myself are the best of friends who always hang out together," he told the Sunday Mirror. "I'm just going to put out there, Emma and I text all the time but Rupert and I never text each other, we never see each other.

"If I see him every six months or so, it's a friendly 'hello, how's things with you' but that's about it."We guess it's normal to drift away from your former co-workers -- but it's a bit sad that the Harry Potter trio aren't the real life besties that we hoped they were. We would love to know if Emma and Rupert are friends!
